The Net awards are now in their 16th year of celebrating outstanding achievements – from designers to developers, teams and individuals.
Since being nominated for the .net Grassroot event of the year award a few months ago, we’ve had a big wait and what felt like a big build up to the main event. We were so excited when we heard we got through the voting round, and thought that was a massive achievement in itself!
On Friday the 18th we were invited to the awards ceremony for drinks and celebrations in London. We kept our fingers crossed and hoped for the best but the competition was tough. There were some big names to beat, with all our competition; CodeBar, Dribble, PubHack and CodePen meet ups having achieved a lot.
We were so over the moon to find out that we’d won! A lot of hard work has gone into Ladies that UX over the past few years to enable it to be the open and close nit community that it has become.
The awards had more fantastic names collecting prizes for their achievements, with Alice Lee wonning Designer of the Year, Sara Soueidon as Developer of the Year and Julia Wallin picking up the award for young developer of the year. It was great to see so many women getting recognition for their hard work.
We have achieved a lot over the last two years when we think back. We are now in over 41 cities worldwide with Hong Kong and TaiPei being the most recent to join the family and we have lots planned for next year! It’s an exciting journey and so so rewarding. I can’t wait to see what we achieve in the years to come.
Yet of course, we wouldn’t of been able to get where we are today without the women in our industry that have been part of our journey. We’d like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to everyone involved in making Ladies That UX what it is today, whether you attended an event, voiced your opinion by speaking, help us run our meet-ups or have even supported the organisation with sponsorships. We like to think it has been team work on a massive scale, and we are so pleased to of communicated with all the people that have been part of our journey across the globe!
We are so pleased that what started off as a humble meet-up in a burger joint in Manchester, has not only grown beyond belief but is also beginning to be recognised by the technology industry.
Here’s to the future…
